SHAH ALAM, May 19 — Selangor’s economic success, which has allowed the state to remain the largest contributor to the national gross domestic product, is its main strength ahead of the 16th general election (GE16), said leaders.
Selangor Parti Keadilan Rakyat information chief Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad said the state’s economic achievements must be defended as they not only benefit the people, but help maintain political stability.
He said that since taking over the state administration in 2008, the Selangor government has recorded encouraging economic growth, with profits and benefits returned to the people no matter race or religion.
“We have never differentiated policies by skin colour or race. We don’t move by sentiment, but consider the overall interests and needs of all races.
“For GE16, Selangor will focus on economic success facts, (which is that) Selangor is the nation’s economic powerhouse, so economic balance must be maintained for the people’s well-being,” he told Media Selangor.

Saifuddin’s sentiment was supported by Sentosa assemblyman Gunaraj George, who said Selangor’s economic success could win over voters as it is closely linked to the people’s needs.
He expressed hope that all quarters would cooperate with the administration to find opportunities to attract more investments to the state to facilitate the creation of more jobs, especially for youth.
“With the addition of industrial, factory (activities), more jobs can be offered to Selangoreans. We would become a progressive state and this would ensure political stability,” he said.

Meanwhile, Selangor Amanah chairman Dato’ Izham Hashim said that other than focusing on the economy, the state must also consider everyone’s shared rights as it is the migration destination of choice for various races.
He said Selangor reflects the true image of Malaysia, so all aspects including education and welfare must involve all races so no one is left behind.
“The administration always discusses and looks at policies and implementations to ensure the people’s well-being. This is the most important as well as the state’s progress.
“Selangor is a cosmopolitan state, is developed, and has many cultures because many people come here to earn a living, so our momentum must be maintained and (we must) always (consider) the sensitivities of all races and religions,” he added.
