SHAH ALAM, Aug 16 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat is in the final stretch, with the recent outcomes of two state elections guiding the party as it charts its next steps, said Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Selangor menteri besar and Keadilan vice-president however cautioned the party about challenges arising from racial sentiments fuelled by rival parties.
He urged Keadilan members not to be easily provoked, but instead adopt a balanced approach towards all communities.
“Chinese community votes have declined slightly, but we still have the confidence of the majority, with 77 per cent of the Chinese community giving their support to Pakatan Harapan and Keadilan.
“We must acknowledge that there has been a decline among the Indian community. Previously, we received more than 70 per cent, now it may be less than 45 per cent. As for Malay votes, in 2022 we received around 11 per cent, and this time it decreased to 7.4 per cent,” he said in his wind-up speech at the Keadilan National Congress at Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) today.
Amirudin said the momentum of Malay voter support in Negeri Sembilan has increased, from 18 per cent in 2022 to 21 percent in 2026, reflecting growing public confidence in Harapan.
He said the reform agenda has entered a crucial phase, and must ensure national politics are centred on justice for all communities while upholding the Federal Constitution.
He also said the position of Malays and Islam as the foundation and official religion of the country must be respected, while justice must be extended to all Malaysians.
Amirudin added that Keadilan must adopt a measured approach when addressing issues involving aid for schools and institutions serving different communities to prevent such matters from being exploited by certain parties.
