SHAH ALAM, May 18 — The Selangor government is officially taking over management of the Lembah Subang 1 People’s Housing Project (PPR) through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) and Selangor Housing and Property Sdn Bhd (PHSSB) to improve residents’ well-being.

According to state secretary Datuk Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin, the MoU aims to ensure more systematic and efficient operations for the benefit of over 12,000 residents living in the high-density housing area, involving 3,004 PPR units across eight blocks.

Fadzli said the flats face challenges including waste management, traffic congestion, parking shortages and maintenance issues due to the high population density, but added that the state remains committed to improving living conditions and community well-being.

He said the initiative reflects continued cooperation between the federal and state governments.

“This MoU is not just a formal ceremony, but a reflection of ongoing commitment between the federal and state governments to ensure the continuity of PPR management runs smoothly for the benefit of residents.

“We must not only focus on physical buildings, but also on building a safe and harmonious community,” he said in his speech at the MoU signing ceremony formalising the transfer of PPR management from KPKT to the Selangor government.

He added that issues such as waste management and neighbourhood conditions require long-term attention.

He also highlighted that population pressures and rising expectations require a more efficient and responsive management approach.

Meanwhile, state executive councillor for housing Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the takeover marks a new phase in improving service delivery, with early works already underway including waste management, lift maintenance, repainting and drainage upgrades.

Borhan said the state has also begun addressing issues such as subletting, where some units are occupied by third parties instead of registered tenants.

According to him, the state is carrying out engagement efforts to ensure housing allocations benefit eligible residents.

“Through engagement and tenant verification, we want to ensure that public housing is fully utilised by those who are entitled,” he said.

He added that the federal government, through KPKT, has also provided support funding for maintenance works, while additional allocations have been channelled for upgrading efforts.

Also present was Housing and Local Government Ministry secretary-general Datuk M Noor Azman Taib, who expressed support for the initiative and the strengthening of integrated housing management between federal and state authorities.

He said the collaboration reflects a broader effort to improve public housing delivery systems and ensure sustainability in managing high-density developments.
