KUALA SELANGOR, Aug 24 — Islamic financial institutions provide more than just banking services, as they also strengthen the people’s economic resilience and support the development of local communities and entrepreneurs, said state executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah.

He added that the opening of a Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd branch here reflects the group’s confidence in the district’s economic potential, and provides an opportunity for the local community and entrepreneurs to gain wider access to Islamic financial services.

“This district has its own economic strengths not just as a tourist destination but (as it is) also driven by the agricultural, fisheries, food industry, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and growing entrepreneurial community,” he said at the opening ceremony today.

Meanwhile, Bank Muamalat chief executive officer Datuk Khairul Kamarudin said more than 350 customers with transactions exceeding RM11.9 million have been recorded since the branch opened on June 26.

He added that the new branch is part of Bank Muamalat’s commitment to improve the local community’s access to comprehensive Islamic financial services.

“Kuala Selangor was chosen because it has strong economic potential, especially in the tourism and fisheries sectors.

“Bank Muamalat is also ready to contribute expertise, network and financial solutions to support the state government’s efforts to boost Selangor’s economy,” he said.

Khairul added that Bank Muamalat is also collaborating with Yayasan Hijrah Selangor to expand entrepreneurs’ access to financing to help them grow their businesses, increase their earnings, and improve their economic resilience.
