SHAH ALAM, May 14 — Selangor is set to introduce a new Mas Melon variety with a sweeter taste and strong potential as a high-value agricultural product in the state.
State executive councillor for agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim said the variety is currently undergoing trial projects at the Kampung Endah Agricultural Centre in Kuala Langat before being expanded to the local market.
He said the introduction of Mas Melon is expected to open new market opportunities while helping to increase the income of local farmers.
“Mas Melon is a new variety that will be introduced to the public with the assurance of a sweeter taste and the potential to open better market prospects and income for local growers,” he said on Facebook.
Earlier, he conducted a working visit to the Kampung Endah Agricultural Centre and the Selangor Melon Technology Centre in Telok Datok, Kuala Langat.

Also present were Kuala Langat district officer Tengku Rohana Tengku Ahmad, Selangor Agriculture Department director Azahar Ibrahim, the deputy agriculture director (development), and district agriculture officers.
Meanwhile, the Selangor Agriculture Department said the melon cultivation project is being carried out by Koperasi Melon Selangor Berhad involving six main varieties.
The six varieties are Masmelon, Melosel, Rockmelon, Golden Kopmess, Golden Melon and Golden Emerald.
According to the department, all produce is being sold to the public in conjunction with Kuala Langat Melon Week, held from May 11 to 15 at the Selangor Melon Technology Centre.
