Govt approves RM40m for Bukit Raja, I-City flood mitigation

KLANG, Oct 17 — The federal government has approved RM40 million for flood mitigation works in Bukit Raja, including i-City, with the project to upgrade the area’s flood mitigation system now at the design stage.

State executive councillor for infrastructure Dato’ Izham Hashim said the project would take some time to implement, although the allocation and affected areas has already been identified.

“There will be a project in the area, and it has been identified. The federal government has approved RM40 million… it is now at the design stage.

“Everything is in place, but implementation will take some time,” he said at a 2027 Selangor Budget town hall session here today.

Bukit Raja, including i-City, has been prone to flash floods, with Section 7, Section 13 and the area behind Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) also affected.

In Petaling Jaya, affected areas include Section 51, Jalan 223, parts of PJS 2, PJS 4 and PJS 6, Taman Medan, Sri Manja and Buana Perdana.

Izham said additional allocations to address flooding in Selangor will be announced by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari during the state budget tabling next month.

He said the additional funding will cover the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) and the Public Works Department (JKR), including flood mitigation works and road maintenance.

“We are indeed increasing the allocations… JPS and JKR will receive additional funding for roads and flood mitigation, which will be announced by the Menteri Besar,” he said.

On high-impact projects currently under consideration, Izham said a proposal to upgrade Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari is being reviewed. This includes widening the road from two to three lanes and improving junctions.

“My proposal is to widen the road from two lanes to three lanes and also upgrade the junctions, which involve substantial costs that we are still finalising.”

He said areas under all 12 local authorities have been identified for short- and medium-term flood mitigation measures, while long-term measures have also been approved.
