SHAH ALAM, May 11 — Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari has honoured Katiravan Subarayan for successfully completing a solo journey through 109 countries over 1,223 days.
The appreciation ceremony was held at Dewan Rakyat Batu Caves on Saturday (May 9) afternoon, and was also attended by MIC Deputy President Saravanan Murugan, Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai, and several other leaders.
Katiravan, 65, travelled around the world riding a BMW R1200 GS Adventure motorcycle named 'Parameswara', while carrying a mission to promote Malaysia and raise awareness of environmental issues.
“His journey carried a major mission to raise awareness of environmental issues while promoting our beloved homeland to the world,” Amirudin said in a Facebook post yesterday.
He added that Katiravan’s efforts to raise awareness about global warming and showcase the beauty of Malaysia deserve recognition.
The initiative not only opened the international community's eyes to the country's uniqueness but also conveyed a message of positive change to the world.
“May the perseverance, courage. and determination shown by Katiravan inspire young people to continue daring to dream, challenge their own limits and proudly carry Malaysia’s name onto the international stage,” Amirudin said.
The retired electrician began the journey in early January 2023 using his high-powered motorcycle.
The Foreign Ministry has reported that Katiravan has, to date, planted 186 trees around the world and successfully promoted Malaysia to 5,426 individuals internationally.
