SHAH ALAM, April 27 — A proposal to extend the fifth phase of temporary rental assistance for victims of the gas pipeline fire incident in Putra Heights last year will be brought to the Selangor State Executive Council for consideration.
State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the proposal was submitted by the Petaling District and Land Office on Tuesday (April 21) to ensure the continued welfare of affected victims.
It aims to sustain assistance for those still impacted by the incident.
“The Petaling District and Land Office, on April 21, submitted a proposal regarding the extension of rental assistance for phase five for the state government’s consideration,” he said.
Borhan was speaking at the winding-up session of the motion of thanks for the royal address of the Sultan of Selangor during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
Meanwhile, he said that phase four rental assistance for Putra Heights victims, covering January, February, and March 2026, had been fully disbursed by the Selangor Housing and Property Board on January 27.
“A total of 67 heads of household were eligible to receive the assistance, involving a financial implication of RM402,000. Therefore, there are no outstanding payments, and no eligible recipients were left out in the implementation of phase four,” Borhan said.
Elsewhere, he said that the state government remains committed to intensifying the provision of affordable housing to meet the needs of the people, particularly youths and young families.
“In the Hulu Langat area alone, 101 projects involving 55,671 housing units are planned and being implemented, including in the Dusun Tua state constituency, where 68 affordable homes have been completed.
“In addition, the state government provides alternative approaches such as the Smart Sewa Scheme to assist those who are not yet able to purchase homes, by offering rental at reasonable rates while allowing them to build savings for future ownership,” Borhan said.
