SHAH ALAM, April 27 — The Selangor government is intensifying efforts to strengthen the public transport system and improve first- and last-mile connectivity, including by expanding demand-responsive transit (DRT) services, enhancing pedestrian infrastructure and micromobility, and introducing targeted public transport subsidies from June.
According to state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han, existing DRT services have encouraging rider numbers, ferrying around 18,000 passengers daily, with route expansions planned to improve connectivity with rail services.
“The state government has decided to provide direct incentives to DRT users, in line with the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package 2026.
“This initiative is being carried out as DRT operations have been almost fully implemented by Prasarana through the Rapid On Demand programme,” he said during his wind-up speech at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
He added that the initiative is part of the state’s mobility strategy, highlighting that discussions with operators are ongoing to ensure effective implementation of the subsidy mechanism.

Meanwhile, on infrastructure improvements, Ng said the state is focusing on first- and last-mile connectivity to support upcoming rail developments, including the LRT3.
“In Shah Alam, the pedestrian walkway connecting the State Secretariat Building to Shah Alam city centre is expected to be completed this year,” he said.
He added that the pedestrian link will be integrated with micromobility facilities such as e-scooters to improve accessibility between main areas.
He also emphasised that additional pedestrian walkways are being developed along the LRT3 corridor to connect stations with surrounding residential and commercial areas, as part of efforts to encourage greater public transport usage.
According to Ng, these measures, combined with ongoing improvements in pedestrian infrastructure and DRT expansion, are aimed at improving and encouraging a shift towards higher public transport use across the state.
