SHAH ALAM, April 20 — Selangor’s logistics sector is set to face uncertain prospects as the West Asia geopolitical crisis prolongs, impacting supply chains and operational costs, said Invest Selangor Bhd CEO Datuk Hasan Azhari Idris.
He said the agency will focus on this sector for its important role in nearly the entire industry.
“We are expecting the logistics sector to be among the most impacted by fuel price hikes. This sector is important as around 80 per cent of the nation’s logistics activity is centred in Selangor, (and) the services sector is the biggest contributor to the state gross domestic product — around 60 per cent of the economy.
“Thus, we are obtaining further feedback from industry players,” Hasan told Media Selangor.
Under the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package announced on April 16, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said he would hold engagement sessions with construction, manufacturing and logistics industry players.
Amirudin said the package, launched by the state government through Invest Selangor and State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN), aims to ensure construction material supply issues can be proactively managed.
Meanwhile, Hasan said Selangor remains an attractive investment destination amid global uncertainties, but expects investors to be more cautious.
“Investor interest is still there, but we expect them to take a wait-and-see approach.
“(Their) important decisions may be delayed for now to assess international geopolitical developments,” he added.
