SHAH ALAM, April 20 — Construction of the Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) is on schedule, with physical progress now at 8.2 per cent, said Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, group CEO Dato’ Saipolyazan M. Yusop.
He added that KSSA would be the main venue for the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026 if the biennial event were held in 2029 instead.
“If we look at comments from the public that there is no progress on site, but actually, there are land works, which have reached 8.2 per cent.
“God willing, in May or June we will start piling works, and more activity will be seen on site. And God willing, in 2028 in May, the stadium will be done.
“As the Sultan of Selangor (Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj) said earlier, maybe SUKMA could be held in 2029 or when the stadium is ready,” he told reporters after the Tautan Muhibah event held by MBI here today.
Earlier today, during the opening ceremony for the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting, His Royal Highness suggested postponing SUKMA Selangor 2026 until the West Asia conflict is resolved.
On April 9, the SUKMA Supreme Committee, chaired by Youth and Sports Minister Mohammed Taufiq Johari, said the biennial sporting event would go on as planned from August 15 to 24, and Para SUKMA from September 5 to 14.
