SHAH ALAM, April 20 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj today decreed the Governance System Reform (RSTU) be expedited to ensure more efficient, effective public service delivery.
His Royal Highness said this is important as local authorities are frontliners that deal directly with the people and affect their daily lives.
“I hope this local authority reform can be expedited, including in terms of approval processes, for example, home renovation permit (approvals) that can be done in less than 24 hours.
“This also includes a culture of responding quickly to each resident and resident association’s complaint on basic matters such as cleanliness, waste collection, and road and streetlight repairs,” the Sultan said in an opening address at the 15th Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
RSTU, which was launched in August, is the main implementing driver for state policies and coordinator for federal government policies.
It centres eight strategic focuses — governance and integrity, delivery reforms, silo culture eradication, complaints reforms, human capital, grassroots empowerment, programme measurement and monitoring, and results-based assessments.
Meanwhile, the Ruler hailed the state government’s move to establish the Selangor Energy Crisis Special Task Force in the face of spillover effects from geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
Sultan Sharafuddin advised that the task force be put to work immediately and not remain just a suggestion.
“I welcome the establishment of the Selangor Energy Crisis Special Task Force, which will be part of the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES), to analyse and plan actions to minimise economic impacts.
“But all actions must be taken immediately, and not just be intents and suggestions,” His Royal Highness told the assembly.
On April 6, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that former Bank Negara Malaysia governor Tan Sri Muhammad Ibrahim has been appointed to chair the Selangor Energy Crisis Special Task Force, with members including former Maybank Islamic Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Mohamed Rafique Merican and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Malaysian Inclusivity, Development and Advancement Institute director Tan Sri Noor Azlan Ghazali.
Amirudin said the task force would propose measures to reduce West Asia conflict impacts to the people and formulate actions for up to one year should the war persist.
