State to declare fiscal sustainability strategies tomorrow

SHAH ALAM, April 15 — The Selangor government will announce several strategies to ensure the sustainability of the state’s financial position amid global uncertainties due to the West Asia conflict.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said he would hold a press conference to announce the measures, which were discussed at a meeting between the State Executive Council and Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) that he chaired today.

Also held was a briefing on the state’s public expenditure controls to manage impacts from the crisis, including spending strategies for 2026.

“As soon as I arrived from Barcelona this morning, I chaired the Exco-MTES Meeting No.6/2026 to observe several important briefings on Selangor’s preparedness for the current global uncertainties.

“This approach is important to ensure the state’s financial position remains sustainable, in addition to preserving the continuity of the development agenda and people’s well-being amid a challenging economic situation.

“Several announcements on the implementation of the measures will be decided immediately, and I will announce them tomorrow,” Amirudin said in a Facebook post.

He asserted that moves decided at the meeting would be executed responsibly to ensure Selangor’s economic stability.

Previously, Amirudin announced that Bank Negara Malaysia ex-governor Tan Sri Muhammad Ibrahim was appointed chairman of the Selangor Energy Crisis Special Task Force.

Also on the team, Amirudin said, are Malaysian Inclusive Development and Advancement Institute (MINDA-UKM) director Tan Sri Noor Azlan and Maybank Islamic Bhd ex-CEO Dato’ Mohamed Rafique Merican.

The task force was formed to come up with immediate measures to mitigate effects from the West Asia conflict on the people, and to formulate moves up to a year ahead if the war continues.

Amirudin previously said the state government would review the 2026 Selangor Budget, focusing on aid for affected residents, support for the industry, and the exploration of opportunities such as expediting energy transition.
