SHAH ALAM, April 18 — Teratai state assemblyman Yew Jia Haur will raise a range of issues, including the influx of Rohingya refugees and rising diesel costs, at the upcoming Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting.

His office has received numerous complaints from residents regarding the increasingly visible presence of Rohingya refugees in the state constituency.

“Among the locations frequently reported are residential areas, playgrounds, pavements, and the back lanes of business premises.

“Several engagement sessions and dialogues have been held with the Home Ministry, the police, the Immigration Department, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, but no single agency has full responsibility for managing the Rohingya refugee issue in this country.

“This issue will not only be raised at the State Legislative Assembly level, but we also want to draw the attention of the Federal government as it involves broader policy and jurisdiction,” Yew told Media Selangor.

Separately, he will raise the issue of rising diesel costs, which are directly affecting KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) 's operations.

“Its managing director Dato' Ramli Mohd Tahir said that diesel costs have now reached about RM4 million per month. This is a significant burden on operations.

“I will therefore pose a question to the state executive councillor for local government Dato' Ng Suee Lim regarding the steps that the state government will take to help KDEBWM maintain service levels for the public,” Yew said.

He also noted that the issue of limited space for vehicle depots would be raised during the Assembly sitting, which is scheduled to begin on Monday (April 20).

“Existing space is limited, and I hope the state government can assist not only the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council but all local authorities in Selangor in identifying suitable locations to carry out towing operations more effectively,” Yew explained.

The state assemblyman is hopeful that more welfare policies and measures will be formulated during the upcoming sitting to help the people cope with current economic uncertainties.

The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has granted consent for the opening of the First Selangor State Legislative Assembly Sitting for the Fourth Term of 2026, scheduled to begin on April 20.
