SHAH ALAM, Mar 22 — Two low-cost private flats here have been identified as requiring urgent repainting after more than two decades without maintenance works, said Teratai assemblyman Yew Jia Haur.
He said the buildings involved are Flat Pandan Perdana and Flat Bukit Segar Block A3, both constructed in the 1990s.
“I have submitted the necessary documents to the state government for consideration under the Projek Selangor Penyayang allocation,” he said, as reported by The Star, during his visit to Flat Pandan Perdana to brief residents on the matter.
Yew added that both flats have long faced maintenance challenges, partly due to poor collection of maintenance fees.
“As a result, the management bodies have been unable to carry out much upkeep.
“I have been informed that there are also other problems, such as leaky roofs and roads in poor condition, which also need to be addressed under different allocations,” he said.
Flat Pandan Perdana Rukun Tetangga chairman Rausi Sandi said residents are hopeful that the repainting application would be approved.
“The maintenance fee for these five-storey walk-up flats is only RM22 a month, yet many residents have not been paying.
“There are many tenants who have disputes with the flats’ owners on who should pay the fee, so the fee never gets paid,” he said.
Rausi added that limited funds have constrained the management body’s ability to carry out repairs.
“Even when incidents such as roofs being blown off by strong winds occurred, affected residents on the upper floors have had to pay for repairs out of their own pockets,” he said.
Flat Pandan Perdana comprises two blocks with a total of 300 units.
Also present during the visit was Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) councillor Stella Leong Sin Yin.
