SHAH ALAM, April 16 — Approximately 1,947 autistic children and disabled persons have received education assistance from the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) this year to support their learning needs.

Its Asnaf Distribution Operations Division head Md Yusmizan Yusuf said the special allocation is provided under the asnaf categories of asnaf fakir, poor, muallaf, and fisabilillah.

“The contribution aims to ease the financial burden of recipient families who send their special needs children to learning centres under LZS's 224-panel network, ensuring they continue to receive appropriate education.

“The assistance ranges from RM300 to RM500 per month, depending on eligibility and household income. Recipients may also apply for other forms of aid such as monthly financial assistance, house rental, and medical treatment for those under the asnaf fakir, poor, and muallaf categories,” he told Media Selangor.

Yusmizan added that applications for assistance require verification from a medical specialist or paediatrician as official proof of the child’s condition, to ensure transparent distribution.

He also urged zakat contributors to continue fulfilling their obligations so that more people in need can be assisted, thereby safeguarding the welfare of special needs children and their families.

For the record, this year’s recipients of education aid for disabled persons from LZS comprise 48 from the asnaf fakir category, 156 poor, two muallafs, and 1,741 under fisabilillah.

This marks an increase from 1,684 recipients in 2025, which included 39 asnaf fakir, 123 poor, and 1,522 under fisabilillah.
