SHAH ALAM, Oct 7 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj received RM41.72 million in business zakat from five corporate companies in a ceremony at Istana Bukit Kayangan here today.
The contributions were made to the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) for the 2025 haul (lunar year) period.
Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) led the contributions with RM27.01 million — the largest business zakat payment LZS has ever received — with TH chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain representing the board at the ceremony
Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) contributed RM5.6 million, followed by Bank Islam Group (RM4.22 million), Bank Rakyat (RM3.38 million), and Rural Capital Sdn Bhd (RM1.51 million).
Also present at the ceremony was Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) chairman Dato’ Salehuddin Saidin and LZS chairman Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail.
In May, LZS reported that it distributed RM1.33 billion in zakat last year, with more than 60 per cent channelled to the needy, benefiting more than 75,000 families across the state.
The institution said RM1.31 billion in zakat collected had allowed it to provide consistent assistance through various structured interventions.
LZS said it has identified more than 14,000 poor and needy families as new asnaf, after improvements to its assessments and expanding outreach to groups previously underserved.
