SHAH ALAM, April 14 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is ramping up road safety advocacy efforts targeting motorcyclists, especially p-hailing riders.
In a Facebook statement, the department said the initiative aims to improve riders’ awareness of their visibility on the road and the use of proper safety equipment.
“The use of brightly coloured or reflective safety vests could help other road users better detect motorcyclists, which would lower collision risks,” it added.
During the campaign, motorcyclists are briefed on the importance of equipment such as helmets, gloves, safety vests and close-toed shoes, in addition to distributing items like reflective bags and bands to participants.
JPJ explained that the proactive approach aims to improve road users’ awareness of their own safety and that of others.
It also said the latest statistics show that over 70 per cent of crashes involve motorcyclists.
In the same statement, JPJ urged motorcyclists to adhere to traffic laws and not to take road safety lightly, as every preventive measure could save lives.
