SHAH ALAM, Apr 9 — Air Selangor has suspended one of its contractors after a road defect linked to pipe repair works along Jalan Air Hitam in Sepang caused a motorcyclist to be injured.

The incident, which occurred on March 24, saw the rider thrown off his motorcycle after hitting a sunken patch on the road, believed to have formed at a recently-repaired section following a burst pipe.

Initial investigations by the Public Works Department (JKR) found that the road surface had subsided at a section where the contractor had recently carried out repair works following a burst pipe.

According to an Air Selangor spokesperson, the contractor had used a temporary cold mix to patch the damaged area, but a depression later formed.

“The contractor was supposed to carry out proper repairs on March 24, but unfortunately, the accident occurred before rectification could be completed.

“We do not tolerate substandard work, especially when public safety is at stake. A show-cause letter has been issued and the contractor is suspended in line with our internal policy,” The Star reported.

Air Selangor has since completed repairs at the affected stretch and has contacted the victim to assist with insurance and medical matters.

On March 24, a motorcyclist travelling towards Serdang was thrown from his bike after hitting a sunken patch on the road.

A dashcam video of the incident, recorded by another motorist, has since gone viral with over 15,000 views.

Meanwhile, concerns have also been raised over deteriorating road conditions in Kepong, especially around the Fortune Square commercial area, which residents say have worsened over time.

Community activist Yee Poh Ping said the issue may stem from poor reinstatement following past development works, with some roads left inadequately rebuilt before being handed over.

He said that prolonged neglect and heavy vehicle traffic have contributed to worsening conditions, including potholes, sunken sections and structural damage at key junctions.

Despite repeated complaints to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), he said no visible action has been taken.

Yee urged the authorities to prioritise immediate repairs, stressing that public safety should come first.
