Re-Entry MyFutureJobs programme offers 1,500 job opportunities for former inmates

SHAH ALAM, April 7 — Approximately 1,500 job opportunities are being offered to former inmates through the Re-Entry MyFutureJobs programme, an initiative by the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) to help them return to the workforce and build more stable lives.

State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman said that it involves 10 employers offering a variety of roles across key economic sectors, with a target participation of around 300 individuals.

“This programme not only provides employment opportunities to the target group, but also serves as an important platform in supporting their rehabilitation process and reintegration into society.

“Of the total positions offered, 850 vacancies provide salaries above RM2,000, while another 650 fall below that level, indicating that the majority of opportunities are within the better-paying category,” he said in a Facebook post.

Papparaidu added that of the openings, 1,450 are in Selangor, while 50 are outside the state, highlighting a focus on in-state job placements to facilitate participants’ readjustment.

“The job opportunities offered span various sectors, including agriculture, wholesale and retail trade, transportation and storage, food and beverage services, as well as administration and support.

“Overall, this programme not only opens up employment opportunities for participants, but also serves as a key platform in their rehabilitation and reintegration into society, while supporting efforts to reduce recidivism rates,” he said.

Meanwhile, Selangor SOCSO has proposed a pilot project to help individuals under Restricted Residence Orders reintegrate into society through employment opportunities.

“This proposal will be carried out in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Prisons Department, including outreach approaches to companies to create more job opportunities and build strategic partnerships with employers,” Papparaidu said.
