KLANG, March 31 — Women must be more proactive in channelling complaints and suggestions to local authorities to ensure more inclusive urban development that fulfils the community’s true needs, said state executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari.
She added that women in the community have high awareness of local issues such as infrastructure damage, public safety, and basic facilities.
According to her, input from women’s perspectives is important to help local authorities formulate policies and implement more responsive, effective development.
“... Potholes, drainside ramps, safety at playgrounds or safety along pedestrian routes. (Women) usually accompany their children to play (at parks), when they see (infrastructure damage) and are more aware, they can channel (complaints more) constructively to local authorities.
“Under local authorities’ jurisdictions, there are areas according to zones, which have (their own) councillors. If local authorities have communication channels be they WhatsApp, email or phone, (women) must direct (their complaints there),” Anfaal said.
She was met at a Women’s Month celebration Women’s Month celebration at the Klang Royal City Council’s (MBDK) Dewan Hamzah here today.

Anfaal said it is important for women to use the proper channel to submit complaints, recommendations and views to ensure follow-up action is possible.
Meanwhile, MBDK Women’s Development Programme patron Jamaliah Abd Aziz said the council has established a gender-inclusive park at the Pandamaran Sports Complex to foster a safe recreational environment for everyone no matter gender, age, or ability.
“These facilities reflect MBDK’s continued commitment in strengthening community well-being and supporting gender equality principles in urban development,” Jamaliah said during the event.
Previously, Klang Mayor Dato’ Abd Hamid Hussain said MBDK is committed to its urban sustainability agenda, such as through the MBDK Sustainable Community Awards ceremony, which he said balances social, economic and environmental development in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
