SABAK BERNAM, March 13 — The number of tourists visiting Sabak Bernam rose by 74 per cent last year to 71,414, up from 41,032 in 2024.

District officer Ali Sadikin Sadin said the increase shows that Sabak Bernam is gaining recognition as a popular rural tourism destination with its own unique identity.

“The beauty of the paddy fields, homestay programmes, coastal areas, as well as attractions like Kelong Paradise and the Sungai Panjang Firefly Conservation Centre are among the factors drawing tourists.

“The natural attractions and rural tourism experiences offered are helping Sabak Bernam gain increasing attention from visitors both locally and internationally,” he said.

He said this in his speech during the Sultan of Selangor's breaking of fast event with the people Masjid Marzukiah, Kampung Lubuk Pusing, here yesterday.

According to Ali Sadikin, the involvement of the private sector has also helped to boost visitor numbers, through the development of unique tourism products.

"Among attractions that are growing in popularity are the Sekinchan Rice Museum, which showcases the history of rice cultivation and processing, and Ah Ma House, featuring a nostalgic 90s-themed shop concept."

“At the same time, efforts to maintain and upgrade public facilities continue to be conducted to ensure that amenities remain safe, comfortable, and of high quality for everyone."

Ali Sadikin said the state government also continues to strengthen the district's economy through the Sabak Bernam Development Area (SABDA) initiative, which focuses on food security, boosting the fisheries industry, developing eco-tourism, and establishing a modern agricultural hub.

"The SABDA initiative, launched under the First Selangor Plan (RS-1), is a strategic step to accelerate the district’s economic development in a more aggressive and sustainable manner.

“The implementation of this initiative, led by the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI, is expected to have a significant impact on the district’s economic growth,” he said.

He added that key projects to be continued under RS-2 include the proposed 415-acre Sekinchan fish landing port and a 460-acre aquaculture project along Sungai Lang, implemented by MBI subsidiaries, Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB) and Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).

“Sabak Bernam’s socio-economic foundation remains anchored in agriculture as the backbone of its rural economy. Although industrial development is still moderate, the district has significant potential in agri-food, fisheries, rural tourism, and the creative economy.

“This potential is expected to enhance the well-being of the local community and transform Sabak Bernam into a true agropolitan district."
