SHAH ALAM, July 27 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for Sabak Bernam, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 1 pm today.
MetMalaysia said similar warnings have also been issued for parts of Perak, Sarawak, Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
In Perak, the affected areas are Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak.
In Sarawak, the warning covers Betong, Sarikei (Pakan, Sarikei and Meradong), Sibu, Mukah (Tanjung Manis and Daro), Kapit, Bintulu (Tatau), Miri and Limbang.
In Sabah, the affected areas are the Interior divisions of Sipitang, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort; the West Coast districts of Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud; as well as Kudat.
"A thunderstorm warning is issued when there are signs indicating thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
"A thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert that is valid for no more than six hours from the time of issuance," the department said in a statement today.
The public in the affected areas is advised to stay updated on the latest weather information through MetMalaysia's official channels and take the necessary precautions while the warning remains in effect.
