SHAH ALAM, Mar 9 — Two unlicensed plastic and metal processing factories in Telok Gong, Port Klang were fined RM4,000 for operating without valid permits during spot checks by the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK), The Star reported.
According to MBDK Corporate Communications Department director Norfiza Mahfiz, an unlicensed yard nearby that was used for storing heavy machinery was also issued a RM2,000 compound for operating without a permit and displaying an outdoor advertisement board without approval.
Norfiza said the compounds were issued following inspections carried out at several premises in the area.
“The compounds were issued under city by-laws to owners for not having valid business and advertisement licences,” she said, as quoted by the local English daily.
She said enforcement officers found the factories were involved in compressing scrap plastic and metal, with the premises believed to have been operating for less than a year.
She added that the operators had been issued prior warnings from the authorities but continued to disregard local regulations.
“Our enforcement officers had previously instructed the factory and yard managers to apply for the licences. The compounds were issued as a result of their failure to comply,” she said.
Separately, Norfiza said in an operation in Bandar Bukit Tinggi, an unlicensed spa offering reflexology and massage services was similarly fined RM4,000 for operating without a valid business licence and displaying outdoor advertisement boards without approval.
She said MBDK would continue carrying out periodic inspections throughout the city to ensure businesses comply with local regulations.
