MBPJ wins four Low-Carbon Cities 2025 awards

PETALING JAYA, Feb 27 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) recently earned four recognitions at the Low-Carbon Cities 2025 Awards Ceremony, cementing its commitment towards sustainable agendas, carbon emission reductions, and sustainable urban development.

Petaling Jaya Mayor Dato’ Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the success reflects MBPJ’s collaborative approach with strategic partners, education institutions and the private sector in expanding green practices and reducing urban carbon emissions.

He added that the four recognitions were the 4 Diamond award for the MBPJ Petaling Jaya Innovation Centre, 3 Diamond award for SK Sri Kelana, and two 2 Diamond awards for 1Utama Shopping Centre and Malaysian Cooperatives Institute (IKMa).

“These recognitions prove the effectiveness of low-carbon initiatives, including efficient energy and water management, the use of green technology, and the reduction of solid waste through 3R practices (reduce, reuse, recycle),” he said.

Zahri explained that the awards were part of the Low-Carbon Cities 2030 Challenge under the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) backed by the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES) to expedite transitions to low-carbon cities by 2030.

“These recognitions prove MBPJ’s continued efforts in implementing comprehensive, high-impact low-carbon initiatives.

“MBPJ will keep improving sustainability strategies and green initiatives to ensure Petaling Jaya becomes a smart, sustainable and resilient city by 2030,” Zahri said.
