SHAH ALAM, Feb 15 — The Malaysian Games (SUKMA) and Para SUKMA Selangor delegation has made Terengganu its third stop on its official invitation tour.
State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the tour is a SUKMA tradition and aims to strengthen interstate cooperation, including in logistic coordination and athlete accommodation.
“This invitation visit is important to strengthen interstate cooperation so the accommodation and welfare of athletes in the Terengganu contingent can be managed more systematically and effectively throughout the event in Selangor.
“A letter of appreciation and confirmation of (Terengganu’s) participation was also presented by Terengganu Youth, Sports and NGO Committee chairman Hishamuddin Abdul Karim,” Najwan said in a statement today.
The tour was joined by SUKMA 2026 Secretariat chief executive officer Dato’ Mohd Yazid Sairi, Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi, Terengganu Deputy State Secretary (Development) Dato’ Rosli Latif, and Terengganu State Sports Council director Ahmad Shahrizal Yahya.
The 22nd SUKMA this year will be held from August 15 to 24 with its opening ceremony at the Sepang International Circuit, while Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to 14.
The biennial games will see 474 events involving 37 sports contested at 52 venues across Selangor’s nine districts (with track cycling at the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan), while Para SUKMA will see 10 sports with 316 events held in Petaling and Klang.
Previously, Najwan said the progress of venue upgrades for SUKMA was at 80 per cent on February 8, with completion scheduled for May, according to the secretariat’s timeline.
