BANGI, Feb 10 — Approximately 200 traders registered with the Selangor Platform (PLATS) have received free Point of Sale (POS) business devices worth more than RM2,000 each to help digitalise their business operations.
Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI's chief executive Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the BizApp POS devices replace manual trading methods with a more convenient and efficient digital system.
The total cost of the initiative was about RM500,000 and involved PLATS traders who had completed the U-PLATS DIGITAL course in collaboration with the local authorities.
“This system is equipped with a dashboard that allows traders to monitor daily sales and identify best-selling products, thereby helping to expand their businesses,” he said after the POS system handover ceremony at the Bangi Resort Hotel today.
Azri added that using the POS system has begun to show a positive impact, with small traders successfully increasing their sales revenue.
“For example, a roti canai and mutton curry trader in Beranang. Although the business is small, after using this system, he was able to monitor sales more systematically, resulting in revenue rising to hundreds of thousands of ringgit,” he said.
In October 2024, MBI announced a collaboration with BizApp Ventures Sdn Bhd to empower 50,000 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Selangor through digital entrepreneurship over a five-year period.
One of the main initiatives under the collaboration is the free provision of the BizApp POS system to PLATS entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile, BizApp's chief executive officer Mohd Jefrey Aman said the company is committed to being MBI’s technology partner in supporting Selangor’s agenda towards a cashless society within five years.
For the record, BizApp is Malaysia’s largest rural social commerce platform, with a gross merchandise value (GMV) of RM5.2 billion since its establishment in 2017.
