SHAH ALAM, Feb 9 — Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari officiated the handover of Chinese New Year Jom Shopping vouchers to eligible recipients in the Sungai Tua state constituency at Pasaraya Sri Ternak today.
The initiative aims to help ease recipients' financial burden as they prepare for the upcoming festive celebrations.
He said that Jom Shopping is implemented consistently during the three major festive celebrations: Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, and Deepavali, with each recipient receiving vouchers worth RM200.
“For the Sungai Tua constituency, more than 400 recipients have been identified to benefit from this initiative. Hopefully, this contribution will, in some small way, help brighten preparations and further enhance the Chinese New Year celebrations for those who receive it,” he said in a Facebook post.
The vouchers were first introduced to assist families with a monthly household income below RM3,000 in purchasing basic necessities at selected supermarkets.
This year, the state government has allocated RM18.48 million for the programme, including an additional RM2 million compared with last year, to benefit 92,400 recipients in preparing for the festive celebrations of Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, and Deepavali.
It has also introduced Jom Shopping National Warriors’ Day vouchers worth RM200 per person for 8,317 veterans, with a total allocation of RM1.7 million.
