SHAH ALAM, Nov 8 — Additional allocations for the Selangor Blueprint and Jom Shopping Voucher programmes should be considered under the 2027 Selangor Budget to extend their benefits to more low-income groups.

State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman said demand for both initiatives remained high, but the number of beneficiaries remained limited due to funding constraints.

The Selangor Blueprint programme has helped low-income small traders expand their businesses while increasing household incomes.

Assistance was distributed transparently, with priority given to genuinely eligible applicants through a multi-stage selection and screening process.

“We have received many applications and the results of its implementation have also been very encouraging. This initiative helps small traders expand their respective businesses.

“Assistance is also given to traders who are genuinely in need, while the items provided are based on their needs and requests.

“Therefore, we hope the Selangor Budget will continue to focus on this initiative,” he told the media during the EXCO-level Deepavali Open House in Kota Kemuning today.

Meanwhile, the allocation for the Jom Shopping Voucher for festive celebrations should also be increased to enable more low-income groups to benefit.

Papparaidu added that the RM200 assistance not only helped ease daily expenses but also gave recipients an opportunity to make preparations and celebrate the festivities more meaningfully.

“The response has been tremendous, with many people coming to apply, but we are limited. It helps low-income groups meet their needs and make their festive celebrations more joyful,” he said.

This year, the state government allocated RM18.48 million for the Jom Shopping Voucher programme, including an additional RM2 million compared with last year, benefiting 92,400 recipients in preparations for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, and Deepavali.

It also introduced the RM200 Jom Shopping Voucher for National Heroes Day for 8,317 veterans, with a total allocation of RM1.7 million.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari is scheduled to table the 2027 Selangor Budget at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly on Friday (November 13).

Selangor allocated RM3.23 billion under the 2026 Budget, comprising RM1.86 billion or 57.6 percent for operating expenditure and RM1.37 billion or 42.4 percent for development expenditure.
