SHAH ALAM, Feb 9 — Approximately RM125 million from the Malaysian Road Records Information System's (MARRIS) funds has been allocated for the maintenance of state roads under the responsibility of the Public Works Department (JKR), said the state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim.

The contract will be managed by Infrasel Sdn Bhd from 2026 to 2030, covering routine works like grass cutting, drainage system cleaning, and road maintenance.

“Today, the state government also handed over the acceptance letter to Infrasel Sdn Bhd for the implementation of the long-term JKR road maintenance contract.

“This is a continuous effort to modernise JKR, particularly in addressing current and future challenges in managing road maintenance in a developed state such as Selangor,” he said.

Izham was speaking at the handover ceremony for new JKR Selangor vehicles and machinery, as well as the Acceptance Letter for the Long-Term Road Maintenance Contract for 2026-2030 at the JKR Selangor Mini Stadium today.

During the event, 11 machines worth RM3 million, allocated through MARRIS, were handed over to JKR Selangor to replace existing assets that have been in use for more than 20 years.

The assets include two excavators, three backhoe loaders, an 18-metre aerial lift lorry, and four tipper trucks.

He added that all the assets will be used departmentally for road maintenance, traffic light maintenance, and mobilisation during disasters like landslides and floods.

“These assets will be placed at district JKR offices to support road maintenance works, mobilisation of manpower and construction materials, inspection of high-rise buildings, as well as the maintenance of traffic lights and street lighting.

“This replacement is not merely a matter of appearance, but involves long-term maintenance cost savings and, most importantly, the safety of JKR personnel while carrying out field duties,” Izham said.
