SHAH ALAM, Feb 6 — More than 700 pupils from Orang Asli communities received schooling aid under Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd’s (KSSB) annual back-to-school programme.

In a statement, the state subsidiary said the initiative helps parents equip their children for school, lightening their burdens amid rising costs.

For this year, to ensure students are adequately prepared for the new school term, KSSB provided essential items including schoolbags, lunch bags, and stationery and colouring sets.

The back-to-school programme was held on January 5, 6, 13, 14 and 15.

“As part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR), KSSB continues to carry out this meaningful annual initiative to ensure children from Orang Asli communities are not left behind in preparing for school.

“The main objective of the back-to-school programme is to assist Orang Asli communities residing near KSSB’s operational sites, covering several areas in the Kuala Selangor and Kuala Langat districts.

“The selection of these locations is based on the company’s commitment to give back to communities living in areas surrounding our operations,” KSSB said.

KSSB said the programme is also vital to ensure the state’s education agenda is strengthened, in line with the Selangor government’s aspiration to produce quality human capital in an environment conducive to learning.

KSSB chief executive officer Nizran Noordin said the initiative is hoped to lighten the burden of families in need and motivate students to continue doing well.

“KSSB hopes initiatives like this can be kept up and inspire other companies to fulfil their CSR (corporate social responsibility) to help local communities.

“We remain committed to continuing the back-to-school programme as one of our main CSR initiatives in contributing to human capital development and education nationwide, particularly in Selangor,” said Nizran.
