SHAH ALAM, Jan 31 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) made history as the only local authority in Selangor to receive the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award at the ASEAN Tourism Awards 2026 in Cebu, the Philippines, held yesterday.
“This prestigious recognition marks a first for Shah Alam, proving the city’s ability to grow as a sustainable and competitive urban tourism destination at the ASEAN level,” the council said in a Facebook post.
The award was presented by Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry secretary-general Datuk Shaharuddin Abu Sohot and received by Shah Alam Mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim.
MBSA said the achievement elevates Shah Alam’s image from an education and industrial city to a smart, sustainable and green urban tourism destination.
The council expressed appreciation to all parties for their cooperation and continued commitment in strengthening Shah Alam’s position as an international-standard tourism city.
