SHAH ALAM, Jan 9 — Twenty-four Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) councillors for the 2026-2027 term, including eight new faces, were sworn into office today.
Shah Alam Mayor Dato' Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said the appointments involved 10 representatives from Parti Keadilan Rakyat, seven from DAP, and six from Parti Amanah, including one Orang Besar Daerah.
“The appointment as a councillor is a trust given by the state government to implement various programmes and act as a driving force for local residents.
“With the combination of experience and knowledge among councillors for this term, it is hoped that they will help MBSA steer its course and provide the best possible services to the community,” he said during the councillors’ oath-taking and acceptance of office ceremony for the 2026-2027 term today.
Earlier, all appointed councillors took their oath of office before Fauzi and subsequently signed the declaration forms accepting their respective appointments.
Meanwhile, he said MBSA is determined to continue prioritising public-interest issues, particularly infrastructure improvements and flood mitigation.
“We learned a great deal from 2025. This year, we want to be closer to the people and return to our original objective: safeguarding public interests, especially in matters related to flooding, infrastructure, and other issues.
“This is crucial for sustainability, particularly when it comes to flood problems. We want to ensure that flooding does not recur by upgrading infrastructure so that it can cope with high volumes of rainfall resulting from climate change,” Fauzi said.
