SHAH ALAM, Jan 9 — Approximately 91 per cent of Ramadan bazaar sites in Shah Alam, involving 1,168 sites, have already been offered to traders this year, said Mayor Dato' Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim.

For 2026, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is offering 1,283 Ramadan bazaar sites across 25 designated locations.

“We still have 111 vacant sites: in Section 6, Section 7, Section 8, Section 16, Section 17, Section 18, Section 25, Section 27, Subang Perdana, Subang Bestari, and several other locations.

“This year, the main bazaar favoured by Shah Alam residents at the Shah Alam Stadium compound will continue to operate as usual. Although there is construction of a new stadium, it will not be affected,” he said.

Fauzi was speaking to the media after officiating the MBSA Councillors’ Oath-Taking Ceremony for the 2026-2027 term at Wisma MBSA today.

Meanwhile, the council has approved one of 13 permit applications for the sale of firecrackers and fireworks in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations.

The applications for permits opened on December 30, 2025, and will close on Friday (January 16), with various conditions that traders must comply with.

“To sell firecrackers, traders must adhere to specific conditions, and operations are not allowed at certain locations, like near schools and pasar malam sites. They must also obtain a police permit.

“As for firecracker permits for Hari Raya (Aidilfitri), we will open applications for a two-week period starting from the first week of Ramadan (February 18 onwards),” he said.
