SHAH ALAM, Jan 27 —  The Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (SIDEC) welcomed Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir’s delegation to the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park, as part of efforts to boost Malaysia’s semiconductor industry and accelerate the country’s shift towards a high-value, technology-driven economy.

During their visit, the corporation shared the park’s development and capabilities with Akmal and his delegation, highlighting its role in nurturing talent and promoting innovation within the integrated circuit (IC) design industry.

“SIDEC shared insights with Akmal and the accompanying delegation on the development and capabilities of the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park as a strategic hub for the integrated circuit (IC) design industry, high-skilled talent development, as well as the advancement of local innovation and intellectual property (IP) ownership,” it said in a statement today.

The briefing also explained how the park supports the domestic semiconductor value chain, focusing on chip design, advanced engineering, and industry-academic collaboration.

“An engagement session with industry players was held to discuss key challenges, growth opportunities, and the policy and ecosystem support required to ensure the sustainable development of Malaysia’s semiconductor industry,” SIDEC said.

The visit was attended by the state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han; the Economy Ministry deputy secretary-general (macro) Datuk V. Valluvan Veloo; senior officials from Federal and state agencies; and SIDEC’s senior management, led by its chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping.

Representatives from local and international chip design and semiconductor technology companies operating within the park were also present.

The corporation reiterated its commitment to collaborating with the federal and state governments and industry partners to enhance Malaysia’s competitiveness in the global semiconductor value chain.

“SIDEC remains committed to working closely with the Federal government, the Selangor government and industry partners to strengthen Malaysia’s position in the global semiconductor value chain, enhance the competitiveness of local industries, and create high-income employment opportunities for Malaysians,” it said.

The Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park, jointly developed by the Federal and Selangor governments, is emerging as an important hub for semiconductor talent and innovation.

In November last year, Yong said the park has trained 600 local engineers with full job placement, while employing over 200 IC engineers at its Puchong facility in just over a year.

On November 6, the initiative was expanded with the launch of a second IC Design Park in Cyberjaya, providing additional space and facilities for chip design companies, talent development programmes, and international collaboration.
