SHAH ALAM, Jan 26 — Selangor is not only a state that provides financial assistance to those in need, but also one that generates high-quality employment, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said today.
He cited the nearly 44,000 job opportunities created through approved investments from January to September last year as a testament to this.
“Up to September 2025, the number of jobs created through incoming investments was the highest among all states. This shows that our investments are not of low quality.
“The figure stood at 43,998, compared with Kuala Lumpur’s 43,900, Penang’s 19,700 and Johor’s 14,492. While Johor and Penang may sometimes record larger investment values, Selangor creates more job opportunities.
“That is why the state not only (supports) those in need, but also creates employment opportunities and livelihoods for its people,” he said during the Menteri Besar's New Year address and civil servant assembly here today.
Amirudin also noted that from January to September 2025, Selangor recorded the country’s second-highest approved investments at RM51 billion, a figure first reported in November.
Earlier in his speech, the Menteri Besar said Selangor’s economic achievements were not the result of sudden or spontaneous gains, but of sustained consistency over the years.
Among the highlights, he noted that state revenue had risen steadily from RM2.81 billion in 2017 to RM3.021 billion last year, the highest ever recorded.
“In reality, this was not achieved spontaneously. In 2021, for example, it was the first time in history that state revenue exceeded the target we had set. That year, we targeted RM2.2 billion but collected RM2.28 billion.
"In 2022, we targeted RM2.05 billion, but exceeded it by more than RM500 million, achieving RM2.53 billion. In 2024, the target was RM2.2 billion, but we reached RM2.867 billion. And last year, we targeted RM2.35 billion but exceeded it by nearly RM700 million, reaching RM3.021 billion.
"This consistency is the result of the focus, dedication, and creativity of the Selangor administration in generating new sources of revenue for the state.”
