SHAH ALAM, Jan 25 — Sixty state pencak silat and taekwondo athletes have undergone fitness testing sessions as part of preparations for the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor.
The Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) said the sessions aim to assess athletes’ physical fitness, endurance, and overall readiness to face the challenges of competition at the biennial multi-sport event.
“These tests are important to identify the athletes’ strengths, weaknesses, and potential injury risks at an early stage so that effective interventions can be implemented.
“Athletes identified as having injuries or physical instability will be referred for rehabilitation and physiotherapy treatment according to the severity of their injuries, thereby ensuring optimum performance and reducing the risk of recurring injuries ahead of SUKMA 2026,” it said in a statement.
The testing sessions were conducted by the MSNS Sports Science Division to ensure that all assessment procedures complied with sports science standards. The programme took place at the Shah Alam City Council Hall in Section 4 and involved athletes who are currently in the intensive training phase.
SUKMA Selangor 2026 will feature 474 events across 37 sports from August 15 to August 24, while Para SUKMA will involve 10 sports and nearly 300 events from September 5 to September 14.
52 competition venues across nine districts will be utilised, involving 12 local authorities, public and private institutions of higher learning, and government and private agencies, including the Negeri Sembilan National Velodrome.
The SUKMA torch relay is expected to begin in April, passing through all nine districts in Selangor to further enliven celebrations for the state’s largest sporting event.
