SHAH ALAM, Jan 23 — The Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) has launched a probe following viral reports of black water on Tanjung Sepat shores on Wednesday, believed to be from pig farming upstream.
The agency said in a Facebook post that checks revealed the suspected pig farms upstream are no longer operational.
“However, there are several sewage tanks believed to still be flowing into nearby drains, causing black-coloured residual flow to the coastline.
“LUAS has issued a written notice under Section 121(1) of the LUAS Enactment 1999 to concerned parties.
“This notice compels them to stop waste flow, clean up the area, and undertake control and prevention measures to ensure this does not recur,” it said.
LUAS also extracted water samples at different locations in the area and sent them to the Chemistry Department for water quality analysis.
The authority said the results from the analysis will inform further enforcement action under Section 79(4) of the LUAS Enactment 1999 for polluting water resources.
LUAS said it is also in contact with agencies including the Selangor Veterinary Services Department (DVS) to determine appropriate action under their respective jurisdictions against pig farms in the area.
