SHAH ALAM, Jan 23 — The Selangor government is continuing temporary rent aid for victims of last year’s April 1 Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion, with the fourth phase of the scheme involving 67 households.
State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the RM6,000 for each family was channelled through the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS), to cover rent for three months (January to March).
“Previously, the contribution involved 100 families, but this time it is only 67. Their homes aren’t ready yet, so we are continuing this aid to help them.
“They are in several categories; some houses are not done, some haven’t moved, and some are in the courts. We will help them until March, and see if there is further need,” he told Media Selangor.

After the April 1 explosion, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced a RM2.19 million allocation in the first phase of rent aid for 365 households (RM2,000 monthly).
The government then approved the second phase of aid for July to September, involving 144 households and a total disbursement of RM864,000.
The third phase involved 123 households and a total payout of RM738,000.
The gas pipeline explosion, which occurred on the second day of Aidilfitri, destroyed 81 homes (structural damage over 40 per cent), while 81 more were partially damaged and 57 were affected but not burnt.
