Fire rips through four factories in Banting

SHAH ALAM, Jan 15 — Four factories in an industrial area along Jalan 5, Kampung Olak Lempit, Banting, were engulfed by fire last night, with two of them completely destroyed.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said his department received an emergency call at 10.03 pm.

“The fire involved an oil-processing factory and an explosion occurred within the premises.

“Firefighting was carried out in a defensive manner to prevent the flames from spreading,” he said in a statement today.

Firefighters carried out firebreak operations to stop the blaze from spreading to nearby factories. However, at about 1.15 am, the fire spread and involved two additional factories.

“Two factories were destroyed 100 per cent, while the other two sustained damage of 5 per cent and 1 per cent respectively. No casualties were reported,” he said.

Volunteer Fire Brigades from Sri Serdang and Rantau Panjang also assisted in the operation.

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Ministry of Health (KKM) were also at the scene to support safety coordination and public health measures.
