SHAH ALAM, Jan 10 — The Selangor Future Cup e-sports championship will tour five more districts to find reserve players for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in August, said state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.
He said the championship is an important platform to uncover young e-sports talent in schools who will be future Selangor Red Giants E-sports (SRG) members.
“The tour has gone to Gombak, Sepang, Kuala Langat, and today it is in Petaling. There are five more districts, and we are confident the tour will end in mid-February.
“Reception has been really good and eligible participants will be shortlisted for SRG and Sukma Selangor,” he added after launching the Petaling leg of the Selangor Future Cup tour at Central i-City here today.

Meanwhile, world eChess player Kavin Mohan, 14, hailed the Selangor Future Cup, saying it would draw more recognised e-sports enthusiasts.
“I started playing eChess at six years old thanks to my grandfather. Soon, my interest grew and I managed to bring Malaysia’s name to the international level, including in Sri Lanka and India.
“E-sports or eChess sharpens your mind and thinking power, so I hope more parents support their children’s interests,” he said.

Meanwhile, Iman Naqiuddin Jamaludin, 17, said he is thankful his family supports his interest in e-sports, and advised his peers not to neglect their studies.
“I have my own schedule to focus on e-sports and academics. There won’t be a problem if we are disciplined in managing our time,” he said, adding that he hopes to be chosen for Sukma Selangor.

Last year, SMK Kota Kemuning won the Selangor Future Cup in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang category, defeating SMK Saujana Utama.
Meanwhile, In July 2024, SRC made Malaysia proud by ending the country’s seven-year drought and winning the international MLBB Mid Season Cup tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, defeating the Philippines’ Falcons AP Bren Sport 4-3.
Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah said the victory was an extraordinary one in Malaysia’s e-sports history.
