Selangor govt orders probe into event promoting deviant culture

SHAH ALAM, Jan 10 — The state government has ordered an investigation into the Glamping With Pride event, which is to be held in Hulu Langat next week, said state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.

He said the Selangor government takes seriously any activity that goes against the community’s values and sensitivities.

“I have contacted the police and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) about this. The state will not compromise with any party that promotes deviant culture.

“This is important to preserve the community’s morality so it isn’t influenced by elements that go against local values,” he said when met at the Selangor Youth Movement (PeBS) appreciation ceremony here today.

Najwan said the organiser of Glamping With Pride is reportedly going ahead with the event next weekend despite objections from various parties.

The event is being organised by an LGBT group known as Jejaka, and is described as a community retreat.

According to information shared by Jejaka, the two-day event will centre well-being, peer support, and health awareness.

The group also said the event involves camping at a registered location and does not violate any Malaysian law.

Various parties have urged the authorities to investigate Jejaka and take strict action against the organisation of the event, which they claim to be immoral and normalises gender ideology.
