SHAH ALAM, Sept 26 — State athletes who competed in the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para SUKMA are expected to receive victory incentives in November, with a total allocation of nearly RM7 million.
State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the incentives would be given not only to athletes who succeeded in individual and team events, but also to sports associations, officials, and contingent management.
“InsyaAllah (God willing), in November we will hold a ceremony to celebrate these SUKMA and Para SUKMA athletes together with our SUKMA volunteers.
“The total amount, covering incentives for gold, silver, and bronze medals, sports associations, officials, and management, is estimated at nearly RM7 million.
“At the ceremony, we will present incentives to all athletes who achieved outstanding results. We may also hold it together with the Selangor Sports Awards,” he said after officiating the closing ceremony of the Selangor Youth Convention today.
Previously, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said state athletes who won gold medals would receive incentives ranging from RM2,000 to RM5,000 according to category if Selangor became the overall SUKMA champion.
Under the scheme, individual athletes and three-member teams would receive RM15,000 each, while athletes in teams of fewer than 10 members would receive RM10,000 each, and teams comprising more than 10 members would receive RM7,000 each.
Selangor recorded an impressive performance at this year's SUKMA, winning 101 gold medals out of a total haul of 245 medals.
The state Para SUKMA contingent also delivered a strong performance, winning 93 gold medals from a total of 200.
Both achievements form part of the basis for awarding incentives to the athletes and those involved in the Selangor contingent's success at the two Games.
