SHAH ALAM, Oct 6 — Quality packaging would help Platform Selangor (PLATS) entrepreneurs boost their competitiveness, build customer confidence, and penetrate international markets, said state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.

He said the strategic collaboration between PLATS and SIRIM Academy Sdn Bhd enables entrepreneurs to improve their product packaging in line with market standards and requirements.

“Entrepreneurs in Selangor play a major role in boosting the state’s economy and income. This initiative also serves as a platform for motivation and support from the state government to help them expand their businesses to a higher level.

“The Selangor government is committed to giving special attention to entrepreneurs by providing various forms of training and implementing efforts to improve product quality to meet market needs and demands,” he said at the SIRIM Packaging Handover event for PLATS entrepreneurs at the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation), or MBI, office here today.

Yayasan MBI chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the collaboration between PLATS and SIRIM will boost customer confidence in entrepreneurs’ products through improved packaging.

He said 25 entrepreneurs from Selangor’s 12 municipalities had the opportunity to participate in the programme with SIRIM Academy to enhance the value and quality of their products.

“This effort not only improves packaging but also gives entrepreneurs the confidence to bring their products to a wider market while enhancing the image and value of their products to make them more competitive.

“PLATS entrepreneurs’ products will also be brought to the Malaysia Fair in Japan and Paris as an effort to expand their market internationally, while giving local products an opportunity to be introduced to more consumers overseas.”

The collaboration between PLATS and SIRIM Academy was funded by the Selangor State Economic Planning Unit’s (UPEN) Sectoral Section.

Each entrepreneur attended three main workshops from February to April, focusing on designing packaging based on the characteristics and requirements of their respective products.

The designs also considered brand identity, product type and market requirements to ensure the resulting packaging is better suited to products and their target consumers.
