SHAH ALAM, Jan 6 — Delegates of the Selangor Women’s Assembly (Siwanis) have been advised to conduct more detailed references for each motion to ensure that debates are aligned with current realities.

Kampung Tunku state assemblyman Lim Yi Wei, representing the state government, said that the delegates’ arguments must be comprehensive, supported by data and facts, including the duration of studies, and that reference materials should be based on domestic research.

“I observed that some delegates referred to studies from foreign countries. References should instead focus specifically on local sources, such as the Malaysian Statistics Department's statistics division.

"I encourage future serving delegates to refer to studies published within the country. At the same time, the arguments also lacked a narrative delivery approach.

"As elected representatives, this element is vital for communicating with the public and agencies. This is the most effective way to tell a story.

“If we aspire to become elected representatives, let us delve more deeply into the issues presented or debated and always strive to reconnect them with the community,” she said during the wind-up of the Siwanis debate session today.

Earlier, Siwanis Opposition leader Dr R. Punaveswari tabled a motion to strengthen flexible working arrangements towards enhancing inclusive productivity in Selangor.

The motion was debated by around 18 delegates, including Norzawani Mohamed Zakaria (Jeram), Lee Chin Yee (Hulu Bernam), Jamaliah Johari (Pandan Indah), Juliana Abu Bakar (Semenyih), P. Charaniyaa (Sentosa), and Kuan Yen Hong (Tanjong Sepat).

Siwanis is a simulation programme of the State Legislative Assembly that brings women together on a single platform to hone leadership capabilities and uncover women’s talents, particularly in the policy-making process.

Organised since 2023, Siwanis has brought together 56 women delegates from across Selangor as well as invited representatives from outside the state, thereby expanding women’s participation in political leadership and enhancing awareness of the need for current knowledge.
