SHAH ALAM, Jan 7 — The Selangor Women’s Assembly (Siwanis) was yesterday told to make use of knowledge and networks to empower female leadership.
Wanita Berdaya Selangor chief executive officer Siti Faridah Abdul Samad said the journey to strengthening women’s leadership needs earnestness, clear strategy, and the courage to speak up.
“Keep empowering all the knowledge you receive by translating it into action. I’m sure that if women are given their due space and opportunities, a clear change can be achieved.
“Women can bring different perspectives and experiences that are very important in addressing issues like social inclusivity, workforce and productivity, food security, inclusive education, and public health.
“Siwanis representatives aren’t just participants, but leaders of the future, policymakers, and agents of change who will shape the landscape of women’s leadership in Malaysia, especially in Selangor,” Siti Faridah said during the Siwanis summit at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building here yesterday.
Earlier, the fourth Siwanis cohort passed a motion to establish the Kelas Al-Quran dan Fardu Ain (KAFA) Integrasi, which is for children with disabilities and special needs in Selangor.
Two more motions passed by the assembly were on flexible work arrangements to boost inclusive productivity and on strengthening care economy infrastructure to support the “sandwich generation” and dual-income families.
During the sitting, Tanjong Sepat representative Kuan Yen Hong received the Best Representative Award, with the Public Health and Care Economy Group receiving the Best Group Award.
Siwanis is a simulation of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly and gathers female leaders to refine their leadership capabilities and unearth their talent, especially in policymaking.
Launched in 2023, Siwanis gathers 56 women from across Selangor and several representatives from beyond the state to expand their involvement in political leadership and increase awareness on current affairs.
