SHAH ALAM, Jan 3 — The Selangor Preschool Aid Scheme (TUNAS) is set to help 3,636 children with its RM2 million allocation for this year.
Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) chief executive officer Gan Pei Nei said the programme involves channelling RM50 monthly to each child aged five and six from families with a household income of RM5,000 and below.
“(This is a) RM50 preschool fees subsidy under TUNAS. We have increased the income threshold to RM5,000 from RM3,000… (after) feedback and high demand from families.
“We understand that with rising operation costs and fees, parents now need subsidies like this to lighten their burdens, especially in terms of their children’s education,” she told Media Selangor.
Gan said the four categories of preschools whose fees are eligible for the TUNAS subsidy are those registered with the Education Ministry (MOE), Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), Community Development Department (KEMAS), and “tabika perpaduan” under the National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN).
Under the 2026 Selangor Budget, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced a RM2 million allocation for TUNAS, aimed at ensuring every child in the state receives quality early education.
Since its launch in 2012, TUNAS has helped 21,236 parents in Selangor up to 2023.
