SHAH ALAM, Dec 20 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has announced a RM150 rebate for night market traders who switch to environmentally friendly generators, effective January.
The council said in a statement that the initiative will benefit the first 500 licence holders, aimed at reducing noise pollution and supporting its low-carbon city agenda.
It said the move is part of 13 policy enhancements involving new and existing guidelines, in line with changes in the socio-economic landscape and current business models, covering sectors such as entertainment, cyber centres, online businesses in residential areas, and workshop operations in commercial zones.
“The measures are implemented under the authority of the Local Government Act 1976 to ensure that business activities are regulated in terms of safety, public health and public order.
“The policy adjustments also take into account the emergence of new activities such as pet cafes, mini zoos, animal crematorium centres and electronic cigarette businesses, which require clear guidelines.
"This is also important to address compliance issues related to operating hours at high-risk premises."
MBPJ said several proposals which involve federal and state policies will be postponed pending government approval.
