SHAH ALAM, Dec 18 — Selangor is awaiting a Cabinet decision, expected in January, on the framework for the proposed third port on Pulau Carey, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
“The Cabinet will submit the framework to us in January, and we are waiting for that decision,” he told reporters when asked if there were updates on the project.
He said this during a press conference after the Cyberjaya Fibreisation Project launch and Business Alliance Framework signing ceremony at Concorde Hotel here today.
Amirudin added that the state government will place about 2,500 acres (1,011ha) of state land and 1,700 acres of Yayasan Selangor land under the management of Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) for the project.
He also said the decision to hand over the land to PKNS was made recently although the land had been identified earlier, and emphasised that the timeline for the port’s construction has yet to be confirmed.
“A party chosen by the federal government will discuss the construction of the third port with PKNS,” he said.
Last week, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called on relevant agencies to expedite the third Port Klang terminal on Pulau Carey.
He said the project should be a model for national development that is efficient, well-coordinated and conducted with integrity, and emphasised that the interests of the Orang Asli, local residents, fishermen, and ecosystem sustainability will be ensured.
In June 2023, Amirudin said PKNS was appointed lead state agency for the proposed third port on Carey Island, while Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, was tasked with carrying out related developments, including manufacturing, housing and industrial projects.
