SHAH ALAM, DEC 15 — A community health programme to promote healthy lifestyles while enhancing community safety and emergency preparedness was held by the Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) in collaboration with St. John Ambulance Malaysia’s Selangor Barat Area (SJAM-KSB).
The local authority and the NGO were also supported by the Residents’ Representative Council (MPP) Zone 15 in their endeavour.
During the programme yesterday, participants were given hands-on exposure to essential life-saving techniques, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED) usage and initial emergency response procedures, aimed at improving community readiness in critical situations.
“Exposure to basic skills such as CPR, the use of AEDs and early emergency action is crucial in saving lives before professional assistance arrives," said MPKL in a statement.
Additionally, it served as a platform to foster volunteerism, social responsibility, and stronger community engagement, as well as to incorporate community gotong-royong activities to strengthen neighbourhood cooperation and promote environmental cleanliness.
“The encouraging response from local residents reflects a growing awareness among the Kuala Langat community on the importance of being prepared for emergencies.
“Strategic collaboration with organisations such as St. John Ambulance Malaysia will continue to be strengthened to ensure more high-impact community programmes can be implemented at the grassroots level,” it said.
MPKL expressed hope that similar initiatives would be continued and expanded across Kuala Langat to build a more informed, prepared, safe, and resilient community.
